Final Project

Business Card

 Letterhead

Artist Statement:
Brochure:
I originally wanted to use a black background with white text, but unfortunately, it took away from the images, and the black was overwhelming. I think the pictures are a good representation of the clothing for Dauntless -even though it was very hard to find free images...
The simplicity of these documents are a necessity to this company. I wanted it to look serious and professional, and I felt that too many designs (that I tried to add) took away from the basic focus of the "classy", "simplistic" high-end clothing.
I also removed all the prices I originally had because I thought it was tacky and  you probably wouldn't see prices in a Hugo Boss brochure.
Business Card: I used the vertical style because my logo fit better and looked less compressed.
Letterhead: Simple letterhead. Didn't try to do too much. But once again, it was originally black, but I felt it was overwhelming.

Corporate Identity Questionnaire

Dauntless

1). What is your business?
·      Affordable, fashionable, modern clothing for men.
2). Describe your business in one sentence.
·      With our affordable designer clothing, it is easy for men of all ages to find a great look that fits any lifestyle or event.
3). Who is your target audience?
·      Men of all ages. Businessmen. Wives/mothers.
4). Who are your competitors?
·      Hugo Boss, Dolce and Gabanna, Armani X.
5). What makes them better/worse than your product?
·      Although these are very successful, popular brands, they limited by their high prices to a very specific audience. Dauntless revolutionizes men’s fashion by offering a formal, modern style at an affordable price.
6). (Skip)
7). (Skip)

1). How do you want your image to be seen in two years?
·      We want this company to be a real competitor in the men’s fashion industry-real competition for companies like Hugo Boss and Armani X. We want Dauntless to be known for our fusion of modern fashion with classic formalwear.
2). If your company/brand were an animal, what animal would it be?
·      Dauntless is serious, high-end clothing line, and I do not think a mascot would be a good way to represent it. However, if a mascot was necessary, I think it would be a panther or a tiger. The definition of “dauntless” is bold, fearless. I think a tiger or a panther would represent the idea that this company is not only bold and valiant, but it represents the beauty and pride in what we are selling. (There is no chance the mascot is going to be a puppy or a penguin –the mascot needs to be fearless and proud).

3). If your company/brand was a person, who would it be and why?
·      Because I did not personally create this company (this is my sister’s clothing line), I had to ask who she thought would be the best person to represent Dauntless. She chose Ryan Gosling –and I couldn’t agree more. He is handsome, cool, smooth, and a great dresser. I think someone like Gosling would appeal to huge audience of people who not only like him as an actor, but also admire his persona and style.
4). If your company/brand were an object, what would it be?
·      If this company had to be an object, it would definitely be a glass of scotch. This is not implying that everyone who wears this clothing gets drunk and likes to party, but when you think of alcohol commercials for products like Grey Goose, Kettle One or Johnny Walker, more often than not, these companies use classy, well-dressed men to represent the clientele for their products. A glass of scotch is a manly drink, not for the faint of heart and not for the casual beer-drinker. I love a good glass of scotch and I love the “feeling” of sophistication and classiness while drinking it.
5). If your customer were a cartoon character, who would it be?
·      Bugs Bunny. Bugs Bunny is cool, smooth, and always wins. This is the type of clientele we are applying to: the man who is fearless and knows how to handle himself in any situation.

Lyrical Collage

My lyrical collage is based on the band, The Gaslight Anthem. The guitarist in the collage is the singer/songwriter, Brian Fallon.
The images I chose to incorporate in the collage are all taken from lines of my favorite songs.
-rose/cowboy boots- porch of gas station
-tommy gun -leaning against "Esso" pump
-American flag - top, left corner
Based on the music, I knew I was going to use some type of rustic, broken-down building to portray the group's alternative rock genre and song themes.
The lyrics are from their one of their songs, "American Slang"

Custom Graphic- 2012 Elections, Go America!

For this assignment, I was inspired by the Presidential elections.
The stripes on the flag were hand-drawn using one of the default paintbrushes. (Everything else is an image from the internet that turned into a paintbrush)...it may be hard to see at first, but the blue background is scattered images of the political party mascots (donkey and elephant)

Photoshop -self insertion

I was trying to decide where I wanted to "be" and I was listing off all the cities I want to travel to - I decided on Pittsburgh. I am a huge Steelers fan, and I have always wanted to go to a game and see the stadium and city.
At first I had a colored picture of myself and the city, but I decided the black-white was better to try and match the lighting. I tried altering the images as much as possible to make them seem like they were taken in the same lighting...I think it turned out fine.

Logos

5 Fictional Companies:

WWJR (What Would Jesus Ride) – I love snowboarding, long boarding, surfing, wake boarding and kite boarding…any kind of boarding. WWJR would be your traditional board maker. I think the play on words from “what would Jesus do” would attract a younger audience, the only problem would be making logos and designs that play on the name with out boarding on the line of blasphemy.

Snow Bum – Another snowboarding company. However, this company would specialize in all snowboarding apparel (gloves, hats, goggles, etc.). The idea behind this company would be to “love the mountain and love the snow”.

Spazz- All college students and working adults know there are times when coffee won’t get the job done. Spazz is just what it sounds like, an energy drink that will get you going!

Veritas –This fragrance line for men is available in a variety of scents. Like its name, Veritas, not only smells great, but it will continue to smell great and outlast other colognes. The slogan might be something like, “Veritas: why not smell great?”

Diuntless – (pronounced “dauntless”) Based on fashion by Hugo Boss and Dolce and Gabbana, this is a stylish and modern clothing line for men. Unlike other designer clothing companies, this company features affordable styles with available sizes for everyone (boys-men).

5 Real Logos:

Burton – Burton is a snowboarding company that specializes in boards. The Burton logo is a simple arrow, but is often mistaken for a “G”. Regardless, anyone who has basic knowledge of snowboarding knows the Burton logo anywhere.

Quicksilver – Quicksilver is surfing company. Unmistakable by its wave-like pattern, Quicksilver is company that cannot be confused with anything else.

RVCA – RVCA is also a skate company. RVCA’s logo is simply the letters, however, there is a common mistake made by people who are not familiar with this brand. The name is often pronounced “R-V-C-A” and appears that way on all the clothing, however, the “V” is actually a “U” and it is pronounced “RUCA”. I don’t know if this common misconception hurts the company in any way, but if you know what it is, skaters may feel like they are part of a special group that knows the secret.

Adidas – although Adidas has changed its signature logo multiple times in order to adapt to new clothing and shoe trends, no one can mistake the three-color stripes for anything but Adidas.

New York Yankees – the logo for this baseball team is a simple, overlapping NY. Because the Yankees are such a dynasty and marketing powerhouse throughout the world, even non-baseball fans can identify this world-renowned logo (It is the second second most-recognozed logo in the world)

Here is my picture! I didn't really know what I wanted to create, but for some reason I really wanted to make mountains, so I decided to make a desert-type landscape with mountains. I also included a house, hills, trees, river and a sun. I'm not very good at coding, so I am sure I made this much harder on myself than it needed to be...but I am happy with it!

My Name is Luke. I am a Junior at UT. My Major is Ad/Pr with a Spanish Minor
I am from Chicago and have lived there my whole life. I decided to come to Tampa for a change of scenery. Most of the people in my high school go to the exact same colleges as their best friends...I chose  Tampa because I literally knew no one and wanted to try something different. My parents told me I could go anywhere I got a scholarship, and (to be cliched) the rest is history.
This picture is from a family wedding in early August. For those who don't know me, I am the one in the black shirt. The photo also includes my brothers and sisters, and a few of my 21 first-cousins.
